SKIN made in collaboration with Collectif Scale and Édouard Ferlet.

This is for us the first stone of an experimental project through which we seek the meeting point between robotic body and living body. At the heart of a simple, refined device, we wanted to see the poetry that can escape from this dialogue. When one approaches man and the other machine. This is how Édouard Ferlet composed the music. This title is called SKIN, a piece to be found on his new album Pianoïd.

The Collectif Scale is a group of creatives whose research and artistic proposals have for several years been oriented towards the possible interactions between different mediums: music (Chloé, Lucie Antunes), luminous architecture or kinetic movement.

For this film, they proposed to the choreographer-dancer, Julien Gaillac, a collaboration by confronting him with a robotic arm. One tries to reproduce the gestures of the other and vice versa. The man becomes precise, mechanical while the machine tries to soften with lightness. The two companions then engage in a duet in unison, organic and poetic. 

This video is the perfect visual illustration of Pianoïd's musical project, a duet between pianist Edouard Ferlet and a machine driving a second piano. A solo augmented by a virtual being that multiplies the field of possibilities tenfold. A variation on the eternal man/machine relationship and its possibilities that Edouard Ferlet summarizes as follows: “Man has created robots to reproduce his gesture. With Pianoïd, I use the robotic phrase to inspire me, and go towards the unimaginable (…) The machine comes to life and surprises me. The music then becomes an organic dialogue. »
